The California Board of Recreation Therapy Certification is pleased to provide a letter of certification to consumers, employers, and practitioners of recreational therapy services. Only CBRTC may verify and deem an individual eligible; we provide verification documents that identifies an individual as eligible/ certified/ expired. Certification verification may be necessary for employment records, background checks, or agency accreditation.
CERTIFICATION STANDING
Eligible Standing
Eligible status is given when applicants meet all application requirements and have been approved to sit for the examination. Eligibility may also be given to application applying for recertification who are awaiting RRC committee review. Examinations and recertification reviews are held twice per year. The period between being accepted and the results of the exam/ review means they are eligible for certification.
Certified Standing
Each certified Recreation Therapist is awarded an official certificate and RTC # upon passing the examination and renewal. This official certificate contains the certified individual’s name, designation, expiration date, and certification number. A certified status indicates the individual’s certification is up to date.
Expired Standing
Expired standing is given when an individual has allowed their certification to lapse without renewing or providing the proper documentation for a Personal Leave of Absense. All expired RT’s must submit a Previously Certified Recertification Application to be eligible for re-certification. Once the member is approved by an RRC member, they will receive certified status.
